Summary :
The German Scientific Committee of the 4th European Congress in Berlin (May 2000) had asked me to speak about the "History of Otology in the Bordeaux School". I was very pleased to accept this request because it was in fact the recognition of our studies by one of the most important otological contributors (during the XIXth and the XXth centuries) the german speaking group. It is a very difficult exercise because many authors since the beginning of our institution in 1880 have studied various and numerous aspects of this field over more than 120 years. And this history cannot be isolated from the researches performed in other french centers and in other countries like Austria, Germany, England or the United States and other places in the world. However the Bordeaux School undoubtedly made major contribution to the development of modern otology. I will mention only few examples among many other publications concerning multiple aspects of our speciality, which cannot all be reported here.
